Can you color cream cheese frosting
I just want it to hold up in the heat. Should you use salted or unsalted butter for the cream cheese frosting recipe? Is one preferable to the other? Thanks so much! Hi Mary, we always use salted butter, so that is our preference, but it will still be yummy if you use the unsalted butter.
I have tried your butter cream and now your cream cheese frosting. I tried them both because of the great reviews each recipe has. I just wanted to add to how great they both taste. Making frosting today and using tomorrow.
Will I have to add any liquid at the time I frost the cake? I tried many recipes and never got this perfect consistency for cream cheese frosting. Thanks for the recipe. Love it. Just frosted a 2-layer Coconut Cake, having used 2 9-inch round pans. There was plenty of frosting for my cakes and the flavor and texture were just right.
I frosted the cake by first spreading a scant cup of frosting on the bottom cake and the remainder of the frosting was able to frost the top and sides. The whole batch of frosting frosted the entire cake without any showthrough of the cake underneath. Coconut Cake is forgiving since you really only need a medium layer of frosting so you can press the flaked coconut onto the top and sides of the cake. Hi there, this recipe looks awesome but I need a glaze for mini red velvet bundt cakes…can this be modified to make a thinner glaze I can drizzle on?
Hi Samatha, here is a link to another recipe where we used a glaze on top. It is really delicious, and I think exactly what you are looking for. This is the best cream cheese frosting ever!!!

You could probably chop up the white chocolate and fold it into the frosting and have chunks in the frosting. I tried this recipe tonight on red velvet cupcakes for my fathers birthday and I was very pleased with the outcome!
I have used a few different recipes before, but I do believe now this will be the one I use all the time! I love homemade cream-cheese frosting but need it to be chocolate and peanut butter flavored,. Hey there, if I frost the cupcakes tonight using this cream cheese recipe and serve them for a bridal shower tomorrow, do I need to refrigerate the frosted cupcakes overnight? The cream cheese really cuts down on the sweetness. Will this frosting stand up long period piped on a cupcake if not refrigerated…like on a table during a party?
Or will it begin to break down? You would have better luck with our buttercream frosting. While you refill the pastry bag, put the cake in the refrigerator so the frosting can set up.

Line a cup muffin pan with paper liners. Combine the cake flour, whole-wheat pastry flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Put the butter in a large bowl and beat with an electric hand mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 3 minutes. Gradually add half of the sugar and continue to beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs one at time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the applesauce until combined.
On low speed, add half of the flour mixture to the butter mixture, then half of the milk, mixing just until combined after each addition. Repeat with the remaining flour and milk, adding the vanilla with the milk.
Distribute the batter evenly among the cupcake liners and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer to a rack and cool in the pan for 15 minutes; remove the cupcakes from the pan and let cool completely. Hello Karla, sounds great. Yes you can definitely share the photos on my Facebook page carveyourcraving message section or email me at carveyourcraving at gmail dot com. I am excited to see your creation. When substituting with vegetable shortening to make it more stable so that it does not melt in the very hot heat, how much vegetable shortening should I substitute?
Is it the equivalent amount of the butter that is being substituted? I just tried to pipe cookies with it. Is there any adjustment I can make to the recipe so I can pile the cookies without destroying the piping? I am not sure that this recipe is good for a sandwich cookie. I prefer crusting buttercream for that. But you can put the frosted cookie in the freezer for 15 minutes and then add the cookie to.
Thanks so much for the helpful info and recipe. Im looking to make an ancho chili and cayenne cream cheese frosting for a mexican hot chocolate cake.
Would I swap out the lemon and the vanilla do u think? Or does the lemon only cut through the sweetness.. Thank you for the great recipe and info. The flavor that you are using is interesting. I would say nothing can compete with chilies. You may omit lemon but for sure chili would be overpowering. Turned out great! Hi Jennica, in my experience 3 times the recipe will be fine for your needs as it is only for frosting outside and not filling.
Great thank you, I averaged it out to be about that so I should be good. It is just a basic swirl. Hello Kirin, it all depends on how complex is the design. If it is a basic swirl then this recipe is good enough to frost cupcakes. So for 60 cup cakes you will have to use 4 times the recipe. Thank you so much for the recipe and the tips! Absolutely perfect!! Awesome Julie. I can imagine.
Having an awesome carrot cake with not so great frosting is indeed a bummer. I am glad you found the perfect frosting recipe here. This is the first time to have such amazing frosting! Last time I ended up with runny frosting..
Today I followed you advice. The only difference was that I added the sugar with butter.. It was a little bit runny but after mixing it for 1 min it became fluffy and stable: Thank you so much. I wanted to make colored cream cheese frosting. Do you recommend a colored paste or something else? Worked well for me. I piped some shells too.
Thank you. And yes I used your red velvet cake recipe with this cream cheese frosting. Everyone loved it. I need this cake for a graduation on Saturday and need to decorate on Friday. And you can travel with it in full air conditioner on. Basically cool condition away from direct sunlight. Place it in the refrigerator all the time until you sit in the car. I made this last night put in fridge overnight for a cake to be frosted today. Does it need to be room temp to make it easier to pipe?
Should I just whip it some more with my mixer? I have used this frosting to make 2D flowers as you can see in the photos. I am not sure about piping roses. Go for stiffer frosting like buttercream. Hi, I tried the frosting recipe with your red velvet cake recipe. I got the best compliment ever when my regular client rated it to be even better than her personal favourite store bought cupcake. Everybody at home loved it too. The lemon zest added so much difference to the taste.
But I am surprised why I need not add 4 or even 3. I added just 1 or 1. Can there really be so much difference in the quantity of sugar, going by all your other recipes have perfect sugar level as per my taste. Hey Kirti good to hear this. The additional sugar is added to get piping consistency. I am surprised you just needed 1. Hello Kimberly, cream cheese frosting is best when used the same day.
Frost your bakes within few hours of making it. I am a home baker. Tried cream cheese frosting for the first time. This was so good. I piped roses as you have shown for my daughters birthday cake.
Worked out well. It was smooth and held shape. Was great consistency for my carrot cake.
